Learners First

Student Leadership

At Illawarra Primary School, the role of student leaders across year levels is an integral part in creating a rich learning environment that values student voice. We strive to provide opportunities and guidance for students to develop their leadership capacity through a number pathways including the Student Representative Council, House Leaders and Class Captains.

These leadership roles encourage students to develop their skills in critical thinking and problem solving, communicating, adapting to change, organising activities and events, showing initiative and working both independently and collaboratively.

Our student leaders are involved in weekly meetings with senior staff, plan and run whole school meetings, share and communicate ideas with classes, plan and run fundraising activities, support specialist teachers in the running of whole school events, and model the core values of Illawarra Primary School through both their actions and words.
